Starting a New Collection of Upcycled Obi Bags
We're excited to share that we’ve begun offering handcrafted bags made from upcycled kimono obi. We’ve always wanted to carry items that allow people to feel the beauty of Japanese culture while still being practical in everyday life.
Rather than something you simply admire from a distance, We wanted pieces that can be used, touched, and lived with.
Upcycled obi bags fit that idea perfectly.

What Are Kimono and Obi? A Brief Introduction
Kimono — Japan’s Iconic Traditional Garment
Kimono is Japan’s traditional clothing, chosen carefully according to the season, occasion, and design. Its beauty is expressed through fabric, color, and patterns that reflect Japanese aesthetics.
Obi — The Essential Element That Completes the Kimono
The obi is the wide sash worn around the waist to secure and complete the kimono. The obi plays a major role in defining the overall impression of the kimono. Its weaving, embroidery, and patterns showcase the skill of Japanese artisans, making the fabric itself highly valuable even beyond its original purpose.

The Spirit of “Mottainai” and Upcycling in Japanese Culture
Japan has long embraced the idea of “mottainai”, a mindset that values resources and avoids waste. Rather than discarding something once its original role ends, there is a natural cultural tendency to reuse, repurpose, and give new life to materials.
Upcycling kimono and obi reflects this spirit. It allows us to:
Carry traditional craftsmanship into modern daily life
Appreciate the beauty of the fabric in new forms
Enjoy one‑of‑a‑kind items with unique character
Obi textiles, originally made for special occasions, have a richness and presence that translate beautifully into bags and accessories.
